Funky Folds March 2024 Blog Hop - Country Birdhouse Free Standing Box Card

Welcome to the ? Funky Folds Blog Hop. We are a group of like-minded paper crafters who love to make cards with funky folds. Funky actually means "modern and stylish in an unconventional or striking way"... so we are featuring cards that are not your usual rectangle/square portrait or landscape style. Think 'easel', 'pop-up', 'gatefold', 'z-fold', 'shaped' or 3D cards etc. The list is endless.

All Blog Hops have an 'anything goes' theme using any type of 'funky' card fold. This month I've made Free Standing Box card featuring the Country Birdhouse stamp and die bundle.

Now I'm not going to lie .... this card fold went through many reincarnations and 2 minor creative tantrums. Sometimes the vision just doesn't work in reality! I experimented with all sorts of fancy box-like things to make this fun 3D birdhouse and after a LOT of faffing about I went back to basics and used this sturdy square column for the post.

It is made with a piece of 10 cm x 10 cm paper, at 2 cm intervals. The first and last sections overlap to form the column. It holds the front and back of the birdhouse together and even better, it folds flat to fit into a standard envelope.

I am not entirely happy with the end design but now that the faffing is over I can make another one using other elements from the suite for a different look. So many possibilities!

The back has minimal decoration so that there is room to write a message.

So I got there in the end! It was worth all of my experimenting. The stable base on my birdhouse allows for lots of decorations without the risk of it toppling over. Can't wait to whip up another one! If you come to my classes you can look forward to making one yourself!

Next up you are off to see an amazing funky fold from Rochelle Laird-Smith. I know she will have something to wow you with!
