May 2020 Social Stamping - Subtles

Happy Saturday. Today I am hopping with the Social Stamping peeps hosted by my fab friend Kelly Kent. If you get lost along the way head back to Kelly's main post here. This hop we are featuring the Subtles Colour family from Stampin' Up!. I use lots of these colours but normally mix them up with colours from other families. When you use a few together they give a lovely .... you guessed it .... subtle effect.

Lately I've been pretty unwell and while some days I have the will to craft I don't always have the energy. Sometimes the energy or brain space that it takes to think of a design can be just too much! So rather than not craft at all, I took inspiration from Stampin' Up!'s fabulous 2021-22 Annual Catalogue. The Concept Artists create so many amazing projects to showcase the products. You can make them as they are or use them to spark ideas. Today I have used the Bloom Where You're Planted Suite and the ideas created to showcase them on page 80 of the catalogue.

I am obsessed with the Macramé 3D embossing folder so I was instantly drawn to the card on the top right. Demonstrators have access to the Card Recipes for each project in the catalogues (ask me if you ever need that info) so I was able to see that the card was a note card size. Well I was winning already as they are precut and scored so I grabbed a Basic White Note Card and Envelope and embossed a piece of Basic White card stock. I cut it into random strips and adhered it down in a higgledy piggledy manner. Love that macramé detail!

The pots and plants are stamped using the Plentiful Plants stamp set using Petal Pink, Calypso Coral, Soft Sea Foam and Mint Macaron inks. I used the coordinating Perfect Plants dies to die cut the stamped images and the pot stand. I also stamped a matching envelope while I was at it.

I loved the way the 'thank you' sentiment has been stamped on the card, top 2nd in from right, in the catalogue. Using 2 colours helps highlight the sentiment. You can mask the 'so very much' to fit around the 'y' or, if you are game/brave/crazy, you can snip the 'much' off. That is what I did. I don't cut my stamps very often but sometimes I know how I am going to use a stamp and it makes it easier to use. You can easily put the stamp back together on your stamp block. I like to let my products work for me in the easiest way possible.

So there you have it! I may not have used all of the colours in the Subtles range but I do love how these 4 work together. Next up is the fabulous Lisa Whitehead. Head over to see how she uses Subtles in her projects.

  1. Great CASE Lou! I hadn't given the Macrame EF a decent look but you have me thinking as I'm really missing some of my favourites due being retired. The chopping into strips gives great texture as well.
Sorry to hear you're feeling unwell, sending you a big Kiwi hug. Take care and hope you feel better soon.

  3. Stop enabling me!!! I didn't even notice this EF until you starting showing it! Now I have to have it! Cutting into random strips is so good - I always feel like I have to math & measure everything!! You are an inspiration! Thanks for being part of Social Stamping and for being a wonderful friend. Kelly x

  4. Lou, I know that feeling of wanting to create but feeling totally unable to concentrate long enough to produce something. Our lives were turned upside down in March when my husband had a stroke (thankfully he's made a miraculous recovery) and I have struggled to create fresh designs now that I have started my classes again. You are so right that we have such a wealth of samples in our catalogue, it is silly not to use them - thanks for reminding me!
I love your take on the catalogue sample and your 'modified' sentiment x
