Beauty of the Earth OnTour presentation 3 - Watercoloured Background Cards

Thanks for popping back in to see my 3rd post featuring the Beauty of the Earth Product Suite and the projects I made for the recent Stampin' Up! OnTour event. You can find all of the posts about this here

The Beauty of Friendship stamp set has 2 Step stamps in it so that you can get really great depth to the stamped image. I discovered that you can use the more detailed large tree stamp for some really fun and easy watercolouring. Sometimes creating watercolour backgrounds can be a bit daunting. Using a stamp takes some of the guess work out and allows you to easily get some colour down without the paper drying out.

So by simply spritzing the watercolour paper with water, inking the stamp (I have used Just Jade) and then stamping several times before reinking you get this effect.

I love that the different pigments separate out once the Just Jade ink hits the water. You can get all arty without having to be an artist! Winning! You might take a few trys to get the hang of it but don't throw out any dodgy ones. Keep them to use in the card fold that I showed you yesterday. You can read that post here

The single tree was made by inking the stamp, spritzing with water and then stamping onto watercolour paper. You may need to stamp off onto copy paper first if there is too much liquid on the stamp. There will still be ink on the stamp so don't waste it. Stamp on the envelope or inside the card.

This technique also works to create skies. All you have to do is stamp the tree sideways. You don't see the tree image. It just helps you get the colour down and have that watercolour effect. Here I have used Pool Party for the sky.

I have created my Mango Melody, Flirty Flamingo and Bermuda Bay trees in the same way the I created the single tree on my first card. Both card bases have been embossed using the Bark 3D embossing folder. My first card is embossed using the embossing folder in the regular way and for the second I have turned it over so that you get the negative texture pattern. I love that you can do that!

Make sure you check back in tomorrow when I will be sharing another fun and easy watercolour technique.

Until next time,

Lou
