I decided I just couldn't resist my
Simply Succulents bundle any longer. I am a bit partial to succulents. I loved a long retired set called Oh So Succulent and was lucky enough to be selected to create items for display using it for a Stampin' Up! event a few years ago. You can check out what I made
here for a walk down memory lane! Lots of ideas for me to recreate using my new bundle!
So let's see what I came up with! My first card has a really simple design. The gorgeous succulent stamped image and the die cut background are so detailed and did all of the work for me.
I got out my Stampin' Blends and started colouring. I did a few trial patches to see what worked best. For the large succulent I have used
Just Jade light and dark and
Blackberry Bliss Light. I used my
Colour Lifter to moisten the tips before adding the Just Jade and Blackberry Bliss. It helps them blend without becoming muddy or bleeding and works in the same way as laying down some water first when watercolouring. The 2 succulents on the left are a bit of an odd combo. I found that
Dark Granny Apple Green and
Light Shaded Spruce worked a treat. The top succulents are coloured with Shaded Spruce.
There is so much to love in this bundle and I know that I will use it a lot. There are 4 label dies in the set. I have used one with my 'thanks'.
When I was looking at my display cards I was reminded on my macramé pot hanger sample (which still is on display in my craft room I might add). So I used
Cajun Craze to colour my pot and I used the same colour combinations as my first card to colour the succulents.
Some Linen Thread, a few knots and several glue dots to hold them in place is all I needed for my pot. I used 5 strands of thread and got tying.
I used my embossing mats (retired) and the large die to leave an imprint on my card front. Pretty simple but effective all the same.
The other fabulous thing about the
Simply Succulents bundle is that if you purchase it during the Sale-a-bration promotion you will be able to earn a FREE product. Yay. Let me know if you'd like more information or a catalogue. There are just so many wonderful new products so make sure you hop around for lots of inspiration! Next up is my fabulous friend,
Rebecca Scurr.

Wow! How clever is your macrame pot hanger with linen thread?! Great inspiring creation Lou x
ReplyDeleteLove your cards Lou, thanks for the tip about laying down the colour lifter first, I really struggled with blending two very different colours so reverted to water colour pencils on my succulents. I am going to give your tip a try.
ReplyDeleteGreat cards Lou. I especially loved the macrame hanger idea.
ReplyDeleteWonderful projects as usual , Lou ! I remember your macrame project from a few years ago and here you go again ! Woo hoo ! Love it and love the Suite also !
ReplyDeleteThese are great cards Lou. I love your colouring of the succulents too.
ReplyDeleteWow!! I love both cards!! The die cut background is great!
ReplyDeletegorgeous Lou- and I laugh when you make it sound so simple to just tie a few knots to create the hanger! I tried once and it was anything but simple to make it uniform- so you are certainly clever to create your hanger, looks amazing. Both cards are of course fabulous, but the hanger is the winner for me!
ReplyDeleteGreat colouring Lou and I’m loving the macrame potplant brilliant!! X
ReplyDeleteI'm such a sucker for succulents and love what you've created Lou! Love the macrame hanger too - so cute!
ReplyDeleteLove both your cards. The macrame reminds me of my grandmother. She made so many pot holders, I think she had hanging plants in every room of the house. I love how to incorporated that into a card, very clever.
ReplyDeleteI've had my eye on that succulent bundle and your added touch of the macrame may have just convinced me to get it! Awesome idea!!
