Creating Kindness Design Team April 2020 blog hop - Coloured Pencils

Hi and welcome to our April Creating Kindness Design Team blog hop. We welcome Liz Yuille back as this month's Guest Designer. Check out her amazing blog here. Our theme of Colouring Pencils couldn't have come at a better time I think. If you are like me (and lots of us around the world) having to stay home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you might be looking for ideas and techniques for creating different things. We have lots of ideas to show you throughout our hop so make sure you check them all out.

I wanted to do some simple watercolouring using watercolour pencils. It is a really simple technique that takes little skill, yet gives a really great result. My Beautifully Braided stamp set was perfect for this technique.

I have made a quick video to show you how to achieve this look. It involves simple shading on the leaves and adding a shadow around the image. Check it out!

For this card I have used Melon Mambo and Flirty Flamingo watercolour pencils on the leaves and Basic Gray as the shadow.

An Aqua Painter is perfect for blending the watercolour pencils. I have used Shimmery White cardstock as I love the effect you get when using it. You can also use watercolour paper if you prefer.

The sentiment has been stamped and fussy cut - I couldn't bare to cover too much of my watercoloured image! To help highlight this sweet sentiment I have used the edge of the largest rectangle in the Stitched So Sweetly die set.

A thin mat helps define the watercoloured panel. I have also raised that up with foam adhesive strips ..... because that is what I do!

For my second card, I have used Balmy Blue and Coastal Cabana watercolour pencils with Basic Gray as the shadow.

The Beautifully Braided stamp set really has beautiful sentiments in it. This one was perfect for the inside of my thank you card.

Make sure you continue both the video and blog hop. Next up is the fabulous Marcy Denning. Can't wait to see her take on colour pencils!

Lou
