Just Add Ink #419 - Just Add a Twist

Welcome back to another Just Add Ink challenge. This week Kelly has challenged us to add a twist - to use something in a way other than what it was intended to be used for.

I immediately decided to use some of the framelits from the Stitched Labels set as stamps. How that idea popped into my head I have no idea. Random ideas just pop into my head. I have about a 50% success rate with them I think. This idea was one of the successes!

This pattern reminds of a Japanese quitling technique called Sashiko. I was really pleased with how my faux Sashiko turned out.

It was really quite easy to do.

  1. Add some strips of repositional tape to an old acrylic stamping block. This makes it easy to adhere the framelits to (and easily remove!).
  2. Prepare cardstock for stamping. If using embossing powder as I did, rub over with an Embossing Buddy. Place cardstock on a Stampin' Pierce mat so that you get a detailed image.
  3. Carefully ink up the framelit that is attached to the block, wiping any ink off the block.
  4. Stamp on cardstock, pressing firmly.
  5. Apply embossing powder if you are embossing. I have used white here.
  6. If you are stamping with a long framelit like the row of crosses be extra careful to wipe off excess ink (or you will have to add a heart like I did to cover your mess!).

The sentiments are from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set. They are stamped on 2 of the smaller framelits from the Stitched Labels set.

The Night of Navy sashiko panel was attached to a strip of Whisper White (on the right hand side) so that I could add some baker's twine and then raise on foam adhesive strips. Hands up if you agree that everything looks better jacked up on foam adhesive strips! Yeah I see you!

This card was a touch hard to photograph to try to capture the embossed patterns so I figure if I show you it from every angle you will see how pretty it is! How cute is that row of crosses???

Make sure you pop on over to the Just Add Ink page to see how all the other Design Team members added a twist. Why not enter your own creation? We always love seeing them!
