It's the start of another Colour INKspiration challenge and as usual we are kicking it off with a blog hop to get your creative cogs turning. Whether you have come from visiting Denita or are starting with me you are sure to get lots of inspiration.
We have some gorgeous colours for you for this challenge.
I love all of the colours but I don't normally use them together. When I showed these projects to my class ladies on Monday one commented that they didn't look like my usual style. I think that is why I love being on this Design Team so much. It gets me thinking in different ways and using my creativity. I was so literal for this challenge! That's okay right? Whatever floats your creative boat I say! So I set about creating a canvas and 2 cards using the Climbing Orchid bundle.
I am really happy with my canvas. So happy I had to go back to the cheapie shop to purchase the easel as well! A work of art needs to be displayed!
It came together quite easily. I added a few design elements to add texture and dimension.
- A light wash of Wild Wasabi for the background. The larger bristled Aqua Painter gets this done in no time.
- Shadow masking for the background. Lightly sponge Fresh Fig through a decorative mask. When dry, line up the cleaned mask with the sponged pattern and move slightly up and to the right. Apply Embossing paste. Don't cover the whole canvas.
- White Stampin' Emboss powder to add definition to the petals.
- A Fresh Fig base to each orchid to make it pop.
- Stampin' Dimensionals (and Minis) in between layers to give height.
- Dabby, plonky blending with an Aqua Painter to give shading.
I recreated a similar version as a card.
I had intended the above card to be part of a class but I needed an easier version so came up with this one. No Embossing Paste or powder but I still think it is effective. In the class we were discussing how we love this sentiment because of it's universal appeal. I always need cards in my stash that would suit any occasion. Add in some ribbon, a gold punched border and a tassel and I was happy.
