Build a birthday Stepped Tent Fold card 2 ways

It's not so sunny on the Sunshine Coast at the moment so it has been perfect crafting weather. Not so great for photographing my cards though sorry. Even Millie, my trusty feline assistant, wasn't up for a photo shoot today.

Today I couldn't quite get my creative groove on so I started thinking about my 'go to' tricks for kick starting the creative process. Here are a few things you can do if you get stuck:
  1. Copy an old design or card fold - or one you see online.
  2. Use an old card fold and remake it using new stamp sets.
  3. Clear your workspace and just pick one stamp set to use.
  4. Choose a set of Designer Series Paper and use the colours from that.
Today I decided to do nearly all of these things! First I revisited some old card folds that I taught in classes a few years ago and came across this Stepped Tent Fold. It's really easy but quite effective as it stands up nicely to show off your handiwork. I chose the new stamp set from Stampin' Up! called Build a Birthday and then got out the Bohemian DSP also from Stampin' Up!. With the colours from the DSP calling the shots (they are listed on the pack by the way) I folded, stamped and then decided how best to use the paper. I have added candles from the Sprinkles of  Life set which I blinged up by using Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds.

You can see how the cards stands up nicely to show off your handiwork.
With my mojo back, I grabbed my new favourite colour Mint Macaron, teamed it with Blushing Bride and came up with a wedding card. Same card fold, same design just with a few changes.

It's easy to make the cake layers look 3D. Stamp each layer on scraps of Whisper White and cut out leaving about a 1 cm tab on each end. Use a bone folder and your thumb to run along each strip to gently curve. Bend each tab under the layer and place a glue dot on each one. When adhering each layer, allow the layer to keep it's curve. The gorgeous Mint Macaron dotted lace trim was gathered on doubled sided tape on the back of the bottom layer. I used a coordinating Blossom Accent and delicate silver metallic thread to finish it off.

  1. Would you have this in inches instead of centimeters?

    1. Hi. Sorry for taking so long to reply. I have been overseas. I don't have the document in inches but I can convert it for you and you can apply that to the diagram above. Start with cardstock 6" x 11.5" and score at 4.25", 8.5" and 10". From there you will be able to work out the mat sizes. Hope that helps.
