Creating Kindness Design Team May 2019 blog hop - Shadow Box Cards - Free as a bird!

Welcome to our May Creating Kindness Design Team blog hop. The months just whizz by don't they! This month we welcome Heike Hűlle-Bolze as our Guest Designer. Make sure you check out her amazing blog here

Our theme for May is Shadow Box cards. This type of card fold is really great as they stand up for display - the perfect way to make a truly special card for someone! You'll find lots of tutorials online for this fold and there are heaps of variations. Mine was a bit of trial and error - it was made to fit around these fabulous new Stitched Nested Labels Framelits dies (available from June 4). I actually used lots of new products from the 2019 - 2020 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue. I love the perk or being able to get the products in advance when you are a Demonstrator!

So this is what I came up .... featuring the Bird Ballad suite of products.

The Designer Series Paper is gorgeous and coodinates so well with the Free as a Bird stamp set. I used Stampin' Blends to colour my stamped image to tie in with the DSP. I then fussy cut and adhered to the inside of one side. I coloured in any white bits with my Pool Party Stampin' Blends so that it blended with the DSP background.

You can see the simple box construction from this angle. I used the Everyday Label Punch on the Silver Foil base to form legs.

I wanted to keep the birds quite light in colour. I have a little tip for you for doing this. Use the Color Lifter how you would normally use your light shade. Here I have used Ivory and the Color Lifter. I coloured the birds in with the colour lifter, added in my Ivory highlights and blended with the Color Lifter. Don't over saturate the cardstock as it can bleed out past your image outline.

The Magnolia Lane Ribbon Combo pack had the perfect ribbon to use on the top of my 'cage'.

How gorgeous is that impression you get from the Stitched Nested Labels! They were perfect to use on my back message panel.

And as an added bonus this cute card folds flat to fit into a standard C6 envelope so you can post it!

I was so happy with how this turned out that I took quite a lot of pics. Want to see one more? Of course you do!

Make sure you continue the blog hop. Next up is the fabulous Sara Levin. Can't wait to see her Shadow Box card!

Lou
