Creating Kindness Design Team April 2019 blog hop - Negative Space

It's April already! Can you believe it! I cannot believe how quickly this year is flying by. For our April Creating Kindness Design Team blog hop we are exploring Negative Space. We welcome as our guest this month Linda van Welly-Zwolle. Make sure you check out her fabulous blog. Linda is a current member of the Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team and always amazes me with her gorgeous creations.

I can't wait to see how each of the design team uses negative space. Make sure you hop around to check out everyone's posts. To me negative space means the space left when you remove something, in the case of my card that was the die cut clouds. They are cut from the sky rather than adhered to the sky.

I used negative space around the sentiment panel as well. My Rectangle Stitched framelits are perfect for that. I love how they work with some of my older stamp sets, such as Lift Me Up which I have used in this card.

My sky ended a bit darker than I had originally intended. I was having so much fun with glycerine blending that I got rather carried away. This is a technique that I have seen lots lately and just had to try. By adding a few drops of glycerine to your ink when blending you get a smoother result on Whisper White cardstock. I am normally a bit heavy handed and get blotches. As you can see my sky is relatively blotch free. I added a few flicks of water to give the illusion of smaller clouds.

Once I had my coloured sky panel, it was as simple as die cutting the clouds from it and adhering over a piece of Whisper White with dimensionals. A silver embossed balloon and sentiment completed the look. I had a strip of sky and a balloon left over so they were perfect to pop in the inside of my card.

Both the negative space idea and ink blending with glycerine were really fun to explore. Can't wait to do some more. I just need the real world to stand still for an hour or so to give me some creating time!

Make sure you continue the blog hop. Next up is the oh so fabulous, Paula Dobson. Can't wait to see her take on!

  2. Just love your card and the use of negative space! Your sky might turned out a bit darker then you intended, but I think it really turned out amazing! Loved hopping with you this month, xx Linda
