2016 Sale-A-Bration Last Chance Blog Hop

With only 7 days left to take advantage of the free products you can earn in the 2016 Sale-A-Bration catalogue from Stampin' Up! members of ESAD have joined together to show you some projects you can make with these great freebies. Welcome whether you have just started with me or if you have hopped over from Kelly's blog.

Preparation for this blog hop started really well. I had some time earlier this week so sat down to use the Memories in the making Project Life Specialty Card collection to create a Project Life layout. Everything went wrong - including a change of plan for the project. Let's just say that I learnt 3 valuable lessons.
  1. To wear glasses when cutting up Whisper White - in case you accidentally cut up a lot of Shimmery White instead.
  2. If you lose a stamp always, always look on your arms first - this will save a lot of time!
  3. Make sure your inkpads are closed before you lean over them to grab something - try explaining that weird placement of a stain.
Needless to say I left crafting until another day. So here we are today with limited time but in a much better frame of mind. I knew it was a good day when 3 of my most favourite songs came on in a row on random shuffle in the car!

There are 2 (well more) but let's just say 2 products that I love in the Sale-a-bration catalogue - the Perfect Pairings and Botanicals for You stamp sets. I also earned the Memories in the making Project Life Specialty Card collection and was determined to use it as it is something that I might normally leave for later (and that sometimes never comes). A set of cards was my second idea when a Project Life layout didn't work out. So enough prattling on - here is what I came up with - 14 easy quick and easy cards.

So how did I get these cards made quickly you ask. Well today I had to just get down to business and create. So firstly I gathered the Sale-a-bration items mentioned above and the Shine On DSP pack. That led to ink and cardstock in the colours used in that - Cucumber Crush, Watermelon Wonder and Bermuda Bay. Add in some Whisper White (double check packet label!) and Basic Black cardstock, Bermuda Bay Ribbon and gold and silver metallic thread and I was ready to go. No other distractions - just those materials to use.

I started systematically by cutting card bases out of Basic Black and laid them out on the table each with an envelope and card insert in Whisper White. The next layer is a mat of Shine On DSP (out of each piece I cut 2 mats @ 10 cm x 14.3 cm and made sure that I had the 12 different patterns showing). Then it was like dealing cards with the Memories in the making Project Life Specialty Card collection. I put similar designs together - some of the metallic acetate sheets and UV resist cards have the same patterns on them as on the DSP. I laid stamps on cards, mixing and matching the 2 sets.

Then I chose the card that jumped out at me the most and went for it. Some of my original layouts changed as I went. I used sponge daubers to colour the UV resist cards. Did you know that you can stamp on them as well. See the Congrats?

It is very hard to see but I have used the Clear Wink Of Stella to colour the card underneath the acetate overlay. It looks great in real life with the pattern really clear against the sparkly background but you'll just have to take my word for it unfortunately!

Most of the cards are variations on a few designs. Why reinvent the wheel?

The acetate overlays can also be cut. The card on the right has half of the chevron on it. I also love that the acetate cards have a metallic finish that is gold on one side and silver on the other.

Sticky notes make perfect masks to keep some areas clean and free from ink.

The card collection comes with a few A5 pieces. I've used 2 of these larger acetate sheets on the middle and right cards. I have cut some of the UV resist cards in half as well.

As I stamped the sentiments to go on the front of each card I also stamped the card insert and the envelope just like the ones below. Very quick and easy.

I still have 2 cards to make up and maybe 1 or 2 of the above cards to add a little something to but on the whole I am really happy with these cards.
